Welcome to the Graduate School!
We are an active learning community with a rich history that spans nine decades. Our range of programs and services includes continuing education, career development and individual assessment, all designed to serve the needs of both government and the private sector.
In the midst of change, the Graduate School continues in our role as the government’s continuing education provider through our Center for Government Training and Professional Development
We are also proud to build on our 88 years as a responsive, cutting-edge institution, by broadening our academic programs and adult continuing education offerings to include associate degrees and certificate programs for our students through the new Center for Academic Programs and Continuing Education. This career-focused Center is designed for students who have new professional goals in mind or want to excel and advance in their current occupations. Students can pursue education options that prepare them to enter the workforce, or earn professional certifications in particular specialties.
This dual structure enables the Graduate School to be more flexible in responding to the changing needs of government and the private sector, whether through unique content development partnerships with subject experts or through the use of new social media tools to interact with students and enrich the learning experience. Consistent with our legacy, the School will continue to grow and adapt as government and industry evolve, remaining a thought leader in professional development.
Serving 200,000 participants annually in nearly 1,000 courses, the Graduate School offers classes and programs in areas ranging from government-based specialties such as governmental accounting and auditing, human capital management and acquisition to foreign languages, economics, leadership and management and the latest software training.
To extend our reach both locally and globally, we have enthusiastically embraced educational media new to adult continuing education. These include formats beyond the traditional instructor-led classroom and correspondence programs. The School also provides condensed seminars; on-site workshops in locations throughout the United States and around the world; cutting-edge formats (such as our GS Connect platform) for distance learning; online training; and satellite, video and computer-enhanced learning.
The Graduate School is accredited by the Commission of the Council on Occupational Education (COE), a national accrediting body recognized by the Department of Education. Additionally, the American Council on Education’s College Credit Recommendation Service (ACE CREDIT) has evaluated and recommended college credit for a number of the Graduate School courses. ACE CREDIT connects workplace learning with colleges and universities by helping adults gain access to academic credit at colleges and universities for formal courses and examinations taken in the workplace or other settings outside traditional higher education settings.
