Overview:
Bird migration is one of nature's most mysterious and impressive spectacles. Learn more about this annual phenomenon through a combination of class and field study. Topics covered include bird migration patterns, navigation techniques, important staging areas and migration monitoring. Special emphasis is placed on conservation issues that impact North American migrants. Field Trips: April 24 and May 8.

Introduction to Ornithology (NATH1118E) or a basic knowledge of birds is recommended.

Objectives:
  • Develop an understanding of the origin of our oceans, and the everyday processes happening in our ocean environment;
  • Make connections between the various Earth systems: atmosphere, hydrosphere, biosphere, geosphere, and the cryosphere.
  • Gain an appreciation of the many plant and animal organisms found in our oceans, and the delicate balances and interactions that occur between different ocean communities;
  • Understand the value of scientific data and the scientific method in answering questions in the field of oceanography;
